Tracey McGrath was born in Campbellville on the same farm where she currently resides with her husband and young children. Her pride, commitment and enthusiasm for her community is evident by the many initiatives in which she takes an active role. As an executive member of the Canadian Association of Farm Advisors (CAFA), she strives to continually identify opportunities and improve on the quality of information available. She is also a regular contributor to the local newspaper, with her bi-weekly ‘Dear Tracey’ column answering questions from the public. Tracey is dedicated to being of service to her friends, neighbours and clients, steadfastly adhering to her principles and the highest of professional standards.
The family farm is one of Canada’s most complex organizations. More than most family-owned enterprises, the family farm is both a “business” and a way of life, and as such, it has both challenges and opportunities that are uniquely all it’s own.
These days it seems the priority of many farm families is ‘merely to survive’ and be able to support the needs of more than one generation at a time. Therefore, succession and estate planning is vital to ensure that taxes and administrative costs are minimized and that succession is fair for all. Planning is particularly important when there are large investments in land, buildings, and machinery, and when you want to use those assets both to secure your own retirement as well as provide for your children.
